Outside in: Peter Andrews

Outside In

Outside In is delighted to have been a part of the Sync South East leadership programme. Set up by Pallant House Gallery in 2006, Outside In offers opportunities to artists who find it difficult to access the art world, whether due to disability, health, social circumstance or art process. The artists involved in this unique project are commonly found working in isolation, frequently with a disability and/or mental health problems. There have been two hugely successful open art competitions in 2007 and 2009 and they are currently gearing up for the summer launch of their third, Outside In 2012.

The project is trying to create a level playing field where access to the art world is possible for all who create. Their aim is not to turn people into artists, but to challenge the art world to embrace and make itself accessible to a wider range of individuals and ways of making.
The main vehicles for Outside In are a national open art competition, a dedicated website with artists controlled online galleries, a gallery in Brighton and Step Up - a training and professional development programme.
Works entered for the national open art competition are selected for national and regional exhibitions by a panel of selectors. A series of awards are presented to winners with the opportunity to have a solo exhibition at the prestigious Pallant House Gallery in Chichester.
The dedicated Outside In website offers artists a presence within an extensive online gallery – www.outsidein.org.uk. This enables artists who find it difficult to access the art world to have their work shown on an international digital platform.

Today - July 21st, Outside In will be launching their new look website and submissions of work will be open on July 22nd. The launch will mark the new website, revamped so that artists can create their own online gallery.

The Arthouse Meath we are proud that their own Peter Andrews is an ambassador! Peter was one of the six award winners from Outside In , 2009.

My Interpretation

About 'My Interpretation'
It took a long time, months to do it. It took a lot of courage to do it, but I am very proud of it. It makes me proud, it makes my happy thoughts.
To start with, because I felt like doing it, that's why I chose this image. Its very emotional to me to do it, it took a lot of hard work. The ladies in the picture are naked and it's part of my own life, it's nobody else's.
